Responsibilities and Rights in Volunteer Relationships

You have the RESPONSIBILITY to:

  • Find out any items necessary for volunteering ( EG: specific clothing).
  • Accept your assignment with only as much responsibility as you can handle.
  • Fulfill your commitments.
  • Use time wisely. Do not interfere with the performance of others.
  • Provide feedback, suggestions, and recommendations to your supervisor and staff that might help the effectiveness of the activity.
  • Be considerate. Respect competencies and work as a member of their team.

You have the RIGHT to:

Decline work not acceptable to you.

Be assigned a job that is worthwhile and challenging to you with freedom to use existing skills or develop new ones.

Be kept informed about what is going on in the agency or school.

Be provided orientation, training, and supervision for the jobs you accept. Know why you have been asked to do a specific task.

Expect your time to not be wasted by lack of planning, coordination, and cooperation within the agency.

Expect valid recommendations and encouragement from your supervisor.
