ACT in Asheville
For Fall, 2006, UNCA's traditional day of community involvement for all freshmen, Bulldog Day, has been changed to a new concept, called ACT in Asheville. (ACT stands for Active Citizenship Together). It took place on September 12, the Tuesday of the week which also included the installation of Chancellor Anne Ponder, Founders' Day and Family Weekend.
ACT in Asheville Day is designed to reinforce the strong connections between the University and its community; to help orient and initiate new students into membership in that community; to highlight the diverse cultures and needs of the city; to demonstrate, as announced in the Mission Statement, that UNC Asheville "serves the region and state in ways that complement its educational mission. It encourages students, facult, and staff to interact with and serve the community"; and to highlight the range of educational activities that students undertake, outside the classroom, laboratory or library.
