UNCA Institutional Review Board
Welcome to the University of North Carolina at Asheville's (UNCA) Institutional Review Board's (IRB) website. The purpose of this site is to enhance your communication between the Board and the campus community while facilitating access to regulations, policies, procedures, and forms related to human subject research.
Mission
The Board is responsible for ensuring that UNCA faculty, staff, and students uphold the principles outlined in the Belmont Report and 45CFR46 - Protection of Human Subjects when conducting research involving human subjects. Board members review proposals to guarantee the preservation of individual rights, privacy, and welfare for human participants in research programs. To achieve this mission, the Board has the authority to review, approve, modify, or disapprove protocols submitted by faculty, staff, and students. A guarantee that all human subject research at UNCA will be reviewed by the IRB has been given to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) in a Federal-wide Assurance (FWA00013541).
