Student Rating of Instruction Pilot Study

Student Surveys

A note to students about surveys explaining the importance of student survey projects.

Fall 2000 Survey Results - Results from student surveys conducted in 1999-2000 including comparisons to UNC system schools. Results categorized into the following: 1) teaching effectiveness and quality of instruction, 2) student gains and educational aspirations, 3) orientation, career counseling and orientation services and 4) academic, student and administrative services.

Individual Survey Results

New Students

A survey administered every fall to all new fall UNCA freshmen and transfer students. Portions of freshman data are sent to UNC General Administration as part a system of UNC system-wide surveys. Survey items include choice of college, reasons for attending college, financing college, and parental income and educational levels.

Fall 2002 survey form

Sophomores

Survey administered every other spring to all second semester sophomores in the UNC system who have completed 30 hours at the home institution. Survey items cover quality of instruction, help outside the classroom, campus safety, student support services, administrative services and overall satisfaction measures.

Graduating Seniors

Survey administered every term to all graduating seniors at UNCA. Every other year, data from spring graduates is sent to UNC GA for UNC system-wide surveys. Survey items cover quality of instruction, help outside the classroom, knowledge skills and personal growth, student support services, administrative services, overall satisfaction measures and plans for next year.

Alumni

Survey administered every other summer to graduates of all UNC system schools who graduated in the previous academic year. Survey items cover academic support services, financing the undergraduate education, employment in the year since graduation, educational experiences in the year since graduation and overall measures of satisfaction . This telephone survey is administered by UNC Office of the President .

NSSE - National Survey of Student Engagement

A nationwide survey of first-year and senior students. UNCA participated in spring 2000, spring 2001, spring 2004 and spring 2007.

Faculty Surveys

HERI Faculty Survey - conducted every three years by UCLA. Asks faculty how they spend their workdays, what they find satisfying about their jobs, asks them to identify professional and institutional goals, etc.
