All entering students must participate in a Liberal Studies Introductory Colloquium (LSIC). All introductory colloquia are Writing Intensive. These are taken by students in their first semester at UNC Asheville. Faculty teaching LSIC 179 serve as academic advisors for their students.

Students transferring with 25 or more hours participate in a Transfer Student Colloquium (LSIC 379). These students will typically have been assigned an advisor in their area of interest. LSIC 379 is both Writing Intensive and Information Literacy Intensive.

The Liberal Studies Senior Colloquia engage students in a capstone liberal arts experience. For this requirement either LS479 or HUM414 is taken by all students in their final year at UNCA.
