Leadership and Supervisory Development

Extraordinary Leadership (EXL)

Extraordinary Leadership (EXL), a development program for campus leaders, is all about cultivating our most valuable resources — our individual contributors and teams — in meeting our objectives.  When we develop trusting relationships, clearly defined goals and opportunities for professional growth, we encourage a more flexible, motivated and capable workforce that is prepared for today’s challenges.

Participants in EXL complete a two-year leadership development program designed to prepare leaders to handle the issues most pressing for UNC Asheville.  These highly interactive and engaging offerings will focus on developing practical skills and techniques that can be immediately applied in real-life settings.  Enrollees also have unlimited access to OPAL, an on-line resource for just-in-time tools and tips to address your immediate leadership needs.

Frontline Leadership

As a supervisor, you have a myriad of responsibilities.  You are a performance coach, a planner, an advocate and a catalyst who sparks action in others.  You are sometimes held responsible for what happens in the work environment you influence – both the successes and the failures.  The first step toward maximizing success while minimizing failure is knowing the basic components and responsibilities of your supervisory role.  Frontline Leadership is your roadmap for success.

While all managers and supervisors must complete the four required program courses, leaders who complete and at least two additional electives will receive Frontline Leadership Certification.  Graduates from the program will receive a certificate and special recognition by the Chancellor at a campus community event.  Since Career Banding emphasizes the development of knowledge, skills and abilities, what better way is there to develop your core competencies in leadership and supervision?
