NCFlex Programs

Benefits FAQ  | What's New?

NCFlex is a program of pre-tax benefits plans available for State agency and University employees, and offers the following plans:

All NCFlex plan benefits operate on a calendar year basis, January 1 through December 31.

The NCFlex Program annual enrollment period occurs during October with benefit elections taking effect January 1 of the next year. Enrollment materials should be reviewed prior to the enrollment period so an informed decision can be made regarding participation and certain elections must be made annually to continue involvement. Flexible spending accounts require annual elections while all other NC Flex programs automatically continue if no change is made during the enrollment period. Upon election of any NCFlex benefit, no change can be made during that year unless there is a change in family or employment status.

Eligibility and Effective Date
Employees who work 20 or more hours per week in a permanent, probationary, or time-limited position are eligible for the NCFlex program. Newly hired employees must enroll within 30 days of their employment at UNC Asheville and participation begins the first day of the month following the employment start date.

Employees who do not enroll in NCFlex benefits within the first 30 days of employment are eligible to enroll during annual enrollment period; however, waiting periods and evidence of insurability may apply and coverage could be denied in some cases. Please visit the NCFlex website at www.ncflex.org for details.

If you have a change in family or employment status, please contact the Benefits Representative within 30 days of the event for information about making changes to your benefits.
