Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)

The North Carolina State Health Plan announced on February 28, 2006 that a new Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) health plan will be available as a choice for state employees, teachers and other eligible members effective October 1, 2006.

The PPO has three options and is being offered along with the current Comprehensive Major Medical plan (indemnity plan). Features include:

  • Network availability in all 100 North Carolina counties.

  • No deductibles or co-insurance for in-network physician visits; only co-pays apply.

  • Reduced premiums for dependent coverage.

  • A new Employee-Spouse tier, in addition to existing tiers.

  • Affordable dependent coverage.

The PPO enables the State Health Plan to deliver on its promise of improved affordability and choice for our members.

The various programs are available for PPO members:

  1. My Member Services

  2. Blue Extras programs

  3. Comparison Chart of Rates and Benefits for Indemnity and PPO Plans for Benefit Years 2007 - 2009, August 6, 2007
