Did you know....?
- You can save approximately 25% by payroll deducting your UNCA Parking
Fees because this is a pre-tax deduction.
- TSERS Members – At retirement, unused sick leave is used to
increase your creditable service. One month of credit is allowed for each 20
days of unused sick leave when you retire. One more month is allowed for any
part of 20 day left over. What does this mean? Each month of creditable
service means a larger retirement check!!!
- When you retire, you are eligible for coverage under the State
Health Plan if you contributed to the Teachers’ and State Employees’
Retirement System or the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) at least five
years. Credit from unused sick leave or credit transferred from the Local
Governmental Employees’ Retirement System does NOT count toward the five-year
eligibility requirement for health insurance. Those who participate in ORP
must elect a monthly annuity in order to be eligible for the health
insurance benefit.
- ORP Members (TIAA-CREF, Lincoln, VALIC, Fidelity)
– You are eligible for a retirement benefit at any age after contributing to
your ORP account 5 years!
- Mental Health/Chemical Dependency treatment is a covered service
under the State Health Plan. Visits are covers at 80% after a $15
co-payment (deductible applies). The first 26 combined mental health
and chemical dependency visits do not require prior approval! See
pages 58-64 of the 2004 “Your Health Benefits” for complete details and
eligible providers.
- Chiropractic Services are covered benefits under the State Health
Plan. Visits are covered at 80% after a $15 co-payment (deductible applies).
There is, however, a $2,000 per plan year limit on these services.
Acupuncture is also covered when performed by a medical doctor (M. D.) or a
Doctor of Osteopathy (D. O.) See page 55 of the 2004 “Your Health Benefits”
for complete details.
- The State Health Plan includes a Wellness Benefit of
$150 per year, which is not subject to the deductible or coinsurance. This means
the first $150 of a “wellness visit” will be covered at 100% of the usual,
customary and reasonable charge. Screening Procedures are covered every 1-3
years, depending on your age. See pages 37 of the 2004 “Your Health Benefits”
for complete details.
- NCFlex -Over-the-counter drugs and medicines may be reimbursable under
your Health Care Flexible Spending Account. The expenses that may be
reimbursed depend on whether the drug or medicine treats a specific medical
condition or is used mostly for a person’s general good health. Drugs
that are medicines used primarily for a person’s general good health (e.g.,
mouthwash, vitamin supplements) may only be reimbursed if they are used to
treat a specific medical condition and proper documentation from the
doctor or dentist is submitted. Most over-the-counter drugs or medicines are
eligible; cosmetic, toiletry, or sundry items are “not” eligible.
- NCFlex – Accidental Death and Dismemberment -
The Unum Provident Accident Death and Dismemberment Insurance offered by
NCFlex also includes the added benefit of a worldwide emergency travel
assistance service. These services are provided by Assist America, Inc. to
arrange and pay for the following when a medical emergency happens more than
100 miles from your home:
- emergency air evacuation
- transportation of a friend or relative
- care of a minor child
- medically supervised repatriation
- return of mortal remains.
- The value of “Employee Only” health insurance coverage with the
State Health Plan is $321.14 per month ($3,853.68 annually). The
University pays this cost for each permanent employee who works at least 30
hours per week/9 months per year.
