Dean of Students - Jackie McHargue

The Dean of Students directly supervises and provides leadership for the offices of Residential Education, Citizenship Education, Housing Operations and Dining Services.  In addition, she serves as a resource and ombudsperson responding to student needs as related to their personal, social and academic concerns as members of the UNC Asheville community.  The Dean is part of the three person leadership team which oversees the Division of Student Affairs.   Need to schedule an appointment with Jackie?  Contact her assistant at (828)-250-2370.

 

Director of Residential Education - Melanie Rhodarmer

The Director of Residential Education oversees the residence life component of the on campus living experience.  The Director supervises the Community Directors, and the Resident Assistant Staff.  The Director of Residential Education coordinates the educational, cultural, and social activities in the residence halls.  She also provides goal setting and long range planning for the residential component of the program.  In addition, the Director of Residential Education serves as the Citizenship Education Coordinator, administering the Student Code of Community Standards and the Citizenship Education process. 

Director of Housing Operations - Vollie Barnwell

The Director of Housing Operations oversees the operational and facilities component of the on campus living experience.  This includes oversight for the daily and long term operational needs of the residence halls as well as the room assignments process for residential students.  The Director of Housing Operations works closely with UNC Asheville facilities Management staff and outside resources to effectively meet facility needs within the residence halls.  The Director of Housing Operations coordinates, implements, and maintains processes and procedures to ensure the residence hall facilities are as clean, safe, and comfortable as possible.

 Assistant Director of Housing Operations - Tara Hopkins-Meggs

The Assistant Director handles the day-to-day operations for the residence hall security access,         room management systems and procedures.  In addition, the Assistant Director coordinates room assignments, room changes, stay over arrangements, early arrivals, and summer conferences. 

 

Coordinator of Resident Student Education - Blair Jenkins

The Coordinator of Resident Student Education develops the programming opportunities available to all residential students.  Events include hall social and educational gatherings, community service opportunities, movies, bingo nights, musicians, comedians, hypnotists and more.  The Coordinator of Resident Student Education is also responsible for the Resident Student Association which is a group of students within each residence hall area who discuss programs, policies, and other ideas for their living space.  Look for information of how to be a part of this group at the beginning of the academic year.

 

Community Directors

Tina Carroll, LaRisha Littlejohn, Mark McNalley, Ryan Moton

Community Directors are live-in professionals who are responsible for the educational and operational functions of the residence halls.  Community Directors help supervise the Resident Assistants, oversee the security of the residence halls, and are skilled in helping with a wide variety of situations.  CDs are available to you, the resident, when the need for assistance arises.  Each residence hall area has a CD.

 

Administrative Assistant - Ed Skurzynski

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for managing the day-to-day office tasks.  The Assistant is seen as a project manager and is responsible for oversight of our monthly calendar, the website and our front office staff.

 

Program Assistant - Michelle Holcombe

The Office Assistant assists the Directors of Residential Education and Housing Operations.  The Assistant is also responsible for all student files and accounts.

 

Facilities Coordinator - Pamela Gosnell

The Facilities Coordinator is responsible for supervision of Auxiliary services within the residence halls including student mail processing and distribution.  This person also works closely with the Director of Housing Operations to effectively manage maintenance and housekeeping services within the residence halls.

 

Operations/Floor Maintenance Coordinator - Robert Littrell

The Operations/Floor Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for all floor care/maintenance needs in residence hall areas as well as any setups, furniture moves, etc. that need to be done.

Maintenance Team

Rick Sellers and Neal Wilde

The maintenance mechanics have hands-on responsibility for identifying and responding to all maintenance requests as well as preventative maintenance within residence halls.  These individuals do an outstanding job of seeing that all the routine maintenance requests are handled in a 24-hour window. 

 

Housekeeping

Shelly Sellers our Housekeeping Supervisor who oversee her team comprised of Lee Garner, April McCracken, Valentia Ostapovich, Sonya Ramey, Juan Shepard, and Julio Tejera.  Each of these individuals are responsible for the general cleanliness of the residence halls, a task which can only be accomplished with student cooperation.  Although students are responsible for the cleanliness of their rooms, the housekeepers clean hallways and lounges on a daily basis.  It is not the responsibility of the housekeepers to pick up after students.  Students are responsible for emptying their own trash cans in their rooms, cleaning up after themselves and keeping personal items from cluttering public areas.

 

 

Front Desk Student Assistants

We are fortunate enough to have student assistants that handle the day to day operations of the front desk in our Residential Education and Housing Operations office.  They are full time students at UNC Asheville and are helpful and very knowledgeable in all areas of university life including what it is like to be a Residential Student.

 

 

    

 

                

  

Resident Assistants

The RA's overall responsibility is to provide leadership, assistance, and support to you and the other members of your floor or building.  These individuals have been selected for their leadership potential, interpersonal skills, positive attitude, maturity, scholarship, and sense of commitment.  RAs are your primary resource for information and assistance with any type of concern.
