H-INTENSIVE COURSES

One H-Intensive course much be completed before beginning the senior thesis sequence (HIST 390 and HIST 452). In exceptional cases, students may complete an H-Intensive course concurrently with the HIST 390 course.  H-Intensive courses will help students to develop research and writing skills that are key to a history major’s success.  Various disciplines employ different research and writing methods, therefore these courses will be most helpful for preparing history majors for the history senior thesis sequence.  These classes will follow the process of researching, drafting, and revising a major research paper.  In addition to the components of the research paper, students in these classes will practice writing in several different forms, such as take-home examinations, smaller research or analytical essays, or research journals.  Students in these classes will also explore the historiography of the subject during the course of the semester.  Future and past H-Intensive courses include:

   U.S.:  HIST 319.001 "Southern Appalachian History & Culture"

   World:  HIST 373.005 "The Medieval Middle East"

Fall 2007

    U.S.:  HIST 304.001 "Jefferson's America"

    Europe: HIST 350.001 "Britain Since 1688"

Spring 2007

    U.S.:  HIST 303.001  "Colonial America"   

    Europe:  HIST 362.001 "French Revolution"

Fall 2006

US: HIST 311.001 "Foreign Relations of the U.S."

Europe:  HIST 373.001 "Women and Imperialism"

World: HIST 380.001 "Imperial China"
