Minutes

Present—Hardy, Konz, Krumpe, McKnight, Nelms, Ruiz, White-Carter, Katz

  1. Report to Senate:  Dr Katz will be reporting to the Senate on Thursday, 12 September. He has also sent out a memo to all faculty and staff, outlining the work of the Task Force to date and clarifying our agenda for this academic year.
  2. Communication to faculty and to APC:  Drs Katz and Konz commented on the importance of communication with the faculty, in particular with APC, as many of the issues we are discussing are also issues for the major. Examples include, but are not limited to, information literacy, computer literacy, and diversity.
  3. Faculty participation in design:  The Design Team discussed the need to continue talking to faculty teaching in and directing key general education components. Communication with these faculty members will help us to draft the design principles in ways that best serve the campus community.
  4. Discussion of Design Principles:  The team continued its discussion and drafting of design principles, focusing on information literacy, the staffing of curriculum, pedagogical and curricular approach, and policies regarding tenure, promotion, and reward structure.
  5. Next meeting:  The team will continue discussing and drafting design principles at next week’s meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, 18 September, at 4:30 pm in KH 207 (note that this is an alternate site).
