KH 207, 4:30-5:30 pm
Minutes
Present—Konz, Krumpe, McKnight, Nelms, Ruiz, White-Carter, Katz
1. Meeting with Dr. Padilla, VCAA —Dr Katz reviewed his meeting with Dr Padilla, at which they discussed Katz’s report to the Senate, the Listening Project Summary, and progress on the Statement of Principles. Katz and Padilla discussed also the draft of the Resource Team’s report and the issues emerging out of it, particularly those having to do with reward structures and incentives for faculty participation in general education and with concerns about transfer students and the Articulation Agreement.
2. Forum date—The Design Team thought that we need to have a forum on both the Listening Project Summary and on the Statement of Principles. The team also thought that it would be good to have Dr. Padilla speak on the issue of faculty rewards and incentives for participation in general education, in order to clarify the commitment of Academic Affairs to the general education curriculum and to the revision effort. The tentative date will be Friday, 24 or 25 Oct, 4:15-5:45 pm. Katz will see if he can schedule it for the Laurel Forum, and if Academic Affairs will fund refreshments for faculty.
3. Statement of Principles—The team continued its discussion of the Statement of Principles, finishing statements about program coherence through the four years; depth as well as breadth in the revised program; and the encouraging of students to participate in curricular enhancements, such as service learning, undergraduate research, internships, international study, and/or off-campus learning experiences.
4. Next meeting—The next meeting will be Wednesday, 2 October, 4:30pm in KH 207, the alternative site. The team will discuss the principle regarding diversity in the general education curriculum.
