Summer Financial Aid

Triple Falls WNC Outdoors

Summer Financial Aid

Summer financial aid awards are packaged separately from fall and spring awards.  Types of financial aid available for summer school are mainly comprised of Pell Grants, student and /or parent loans.

Due to the large volume of applicants we will not be able to determine your award (estimate or otherwise) until May 9, 2012.

Notification of your Summer Awards will be sent via your UNC Asheville Email Address.

To apply for summer financial aid you must:

  • You must have a completed 2011-2012 FAFSA on file with the UNC Asheville Office of Financial Aid by March 15, 2012.
  • Complete the Summer Financial Aid Request Form and submit no later than April 23, 2012.
  • Enroll in a minimum of six credit hours to receive loans

Federal Direct Loan Eligibility:

Your eligibility for a Federal Direct Loan for a summer session is contingent upon the federal loan limits based on credit hour completion.  At UNC Asheville, summer session is still considered part of the 2011-2012 academic year.  Therefore, you cannot receive more than the federal loan limits denoted below for the fall, spring and summer cumulatively.

Federal Pell Grant Eligibility:

Students may be eligible to receive Pell Grant funding for the summer term if he/she was not full time during the fall and spring terms. Student can not receive more than their full time scheduled awards.

If you plan to attend both sessions, you must register for both at the beginning of the first session.  Withdrawal from hours, after the financial aid has been credited to our account, will result in a reduction of aid for any subsequent sessions and charges on your account.  Undergraduate students, who register for 6 hours (half-time) and subsequently drop below half-time, will have all financial aid cancelled, and will owe the full amount of charges to UNC Asheville.

IMPORTANT: If you submit an application for summer aid after the April 23rd deadline you must provide a statement explaining why your application is late.  Supporting documentation may be required.  Late applications will be reviewed and processed on a case-by-case basis based upon the students extenuating circumstances.
