The new president of the UNC system, Tom Ross, received a warm welcome and a whirlwind tour of campus on Wednesday, March 30. Ross’ meetings with students, alumni, faculty, staff and campus leaders followed a welcome reception at the Janice W. Brumit Pisgah House on Tuesday evening attended by Asheville and Buncombe County leaders and major university supporters.

Ross served as president of Davidson College before being named the fifth leader of the UNC system in January. He clearly enjoyed chatting and joking with student leaders on a rainy campus tour featuring a chance to pat Rocky’s statue and tour the new Sherrill Center, nearing completion.

He also saw state-of-the-art chemistry facilities in Zeis Hall and later discussed the current budget situation with a large gathering of staff representatives.

Ross plans to visit all 17 campuses in the UNC system in the next few months.
