Faces of UNC Asheville
Paula Walker
“I came in as a junior and I was amazed at how the classes really open your mind and help you understand other people’s points of view. I previously went to a big state school and felt alone. So a small campus is definitely better for where I’m more than just my student number. Here you can get a big school education, but your professors will know your name when you pass them on campus. I’m still determined to go to medical school — my dream is to be a pediatrician.”
- Hometown: Mt. Airy, NC
- What keeps her busy: Senior class board, works in alumni office through work/study program
- Favorite campus break: Chilling out in in Ramsay Library café between classes
- What will she remember? “In organic chemistry, I got to synthesize aspirin. That was cool. It may sound weird, but my friends at other schools didn’t get to do things like that.”
