Faces of UNC Asheville
Edwin Wotortsi
“I transferred from an out-of-state private school because UNC Asheville was much more affordable. And I could still play soccer. Like other student-athletes, I’m volunteering, working with a Spanish-speaking person from Colombia, helping him get a better job. Community service is really big here — volunteers come from everywhere on campus. It’s a close-knit community where you can be more recognized. Your professors are friendly and willing to help you one on one.
- Hometown: Chapel Hill, NC by way of Ghana
- Major: Spanish
- What keeps him busy: Playing for soccer team, NCAA SAAC Council, Senior Class Council, Athletic Director’s Captains Council, tutoring with International Link and working at EMMA Resource Center
- New favorite pastime: hiking, exploring outdoors
- What will he remember? “Mountain hikes, waterfalls, the Parkway, concerts all the time. There’s something different to do every day — enough to last all four years. I never get tired of this place.”
