The Burroughs Wellcome Scholars Program is a “fast
track” to teacher licensure for science and math majors.
In partnership with three UNC institutions, UNC
Asheville will provide 120 new math/science teachers to
NC public schools in the next three years. Qualifying
juniors and seniors will receive two-year scholarships
of $6,500 per
year.
Created by the
North Carolina General Assembly in 1957, this
program was designed to provide scholarship
loans to qualified individuals who are
pursuing college degrees to become teachers in
the public schools of North Carolina.
