Student Teaching Handbook
Introduction:
This handbook has been prepared
for a two-fold purpose: (1) to describe the
student teaching requirements at the University of
North Carolina Asheville in the context of the
Department of Education’s Teacher Education
Program, and (2) to provide some guidelines which
will help to make for a successful student
teaching experience. It should be noted that some
sections of the handbook contain examples of
assignments and requirements. In addition, each
student is responsible for the specific
requirements of his/her individual University
Supervisor.

Policies and Procedures
Manual
Preface:
This manual describes the policies and procedures
followed by the UNC-Asheville Department of
Education. Its main purpose is to provide a guide
for candidates at each step of their licensure
process and to make clear to them their rights and
responsibilities. Further, it outlines the
Department of Education’s process for the
assessment of candidates, indicating the
requirements at each Decision Point. This set of
policies and procedures has been developed to
ensure that our candidates are highly qualified in
knowledge, pedagogy, and professionalism.
This manual also contains information about the
general procedures of the department which
provides a broader picture of the overall workings
of the Department of Education.
