The CID Lab is a part of the UNCA Educational Technology (EdTech) effort. The primary objective of the CID Lab is to provide a range of up-to-date
technical resources to UNCA students, faculty, staff, and WNC area teaching
professionals who wish to create the ideal technology enriched classroom.
Teachers are considered to be instructional designers, that is, they design
and create an active, vibrant learning environment so that all their students
are successful in learning. The CID encourages teachers to be creative
and innovative in designing a learning environment in which students are
highly motivated to learn and learning becomes an exciting event.
Secondary to this objective is to provide the general University community
comparable quality computing resources. CID is designed to complement the
UNCA Computing Center directive by focusing on Department of Education
related goals and basic support for cooperating area teaching professionals.
The CID Lab is maintained and operated in conjunction with the UNCA Computing
Center (University Computing) and Educational Information Technology (EdIT)
group. Use of the CID Lab is subject to the "University of North Carolina
at Asheville Student Usage Policy for Computing and Networking" (CUP).
CID is a place in which students, LEA teachers, and university faculty
can design and develop instructional materials for practical classroom
use. Instructional design experts and technology trainers are available
to assist educators in creating instructional products.
A goal of CID is to help educators create and collect an archive of
instructional products that can be shared by other teachers in the area.
We ask teachers' permission to put their instructional products on our
server so that other teachers can access them. Too often teachers
re-create the wheel. This is an opportunity to share your products
with others and it also provides you with products for your own use.
The collection of instructional products is just now getting started.
The types of instructional products in the archive will eventually include
web pages with specific subject-matter content, powerpoint presentations,
pictures, clip art, video clips, audio clips, and
other multimedia instructional products. When this archive is developed,
you will be able to select a grade and subject and then find specific topics
within the grade level. When you select a specific topic, you will
be able to access and download instructional products that can be used
to enhance your unit plan.
