The main purpose of this course is to help you write and present to a UNCA
audience a superior senior research paper. A secondary goal is to make it
possible for you to avail yourself of the opportunities created by UNCA's
Undergraduate Program, including applying for research funding and
presenting a paper at the National
Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) next Spring if you so choose.
After successful completion of this course you will be familiar with the most
common types of papers written to satisfy the UNCA economics department’s
senior research requirement, you will be able to identify the elements of
proposed research programs most likely to lead to superior and timely research
papers, you will understand the mechanics of writing research proposals and
paper outlines, you will have experienced giving and evaluating oral
presentations, and you will have completed the paperwork required in the Fall to
present a paper at NCUR in the Spring. Finally, you will have a research
proposal and outline you can use -- if you wish -- as the foundation for your
senior research project.
