Dana Jean Zimmerman
Dana Jean Zimmerman graduated from UNCA in 1989 with a degree in
Economics. She was president of the UNCA Economics Club and a
member of the Chancellor's Colloquium, a group of student
ambassadors for the campus. She worked part-time throughout
her studies at UNCA. She volunteered at the American Red Cross
regularly and was active in her church with many social and
spiritual activities.
After graduating from UNCA, she attended Mercer University in
Macon, Georgia where she earned her Jurist Doctorate. She was
a practicing attorney in Dallas, Texas when an accident took her
life.
Her giving nature, which maintained and fostered many friends
here at UNCA, is perhaps her great legacy to the university.
Her tireless work in the various groups with which she was involved,
spirited many of us to work alongside her and marvel at her
energy. She loved the faculty here as well as the many friends
she made, many of whom she remained in contact with throughout her
life.
The Dana Zimmerman Service Award, given
annually, creates a legacy for fostering the volunteer spirit that
Dana typified during her lifetime in education, religion, community
service and excellence in studies. Remembering her and
rewarding what we see of her spirit in others by this simple award
will remind us all of her life well lived. A dear friend,
daughter, and notable student, known not only for whom she was, but
how she made us all better by having known her and makes us all
better by knowing of her.
