Who We AreThe nine members of the Department of Economics -- in combination with a select group of adjunct instructors -- work together to provide a liberal arts education of superior quality that supports the Mission of UNCA. We are dedicated to close student-faculty interaction that expands the intellect of our students and helps prepare them for meaningful lives and successful careers. Dr. Bell received his B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania... Dr. Shirley Browning: Professor of Economics. Dr. Browning received his B.A. in Industrial Administration and his M.S. in Agricultural Economics for the University of Kentucky. He earned his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Connecticut...Dr. Jeff Konz: Associate Professor and Chair of the Economics Department. Dr. Konz earned a B.A. from Iowa State University, a M.A. from the University of Kentucky, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill... Dr. Bruce Larson: Professor of Economics and Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning. Dr. Larson received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill... Dr. Leah Greden Mathews: Associate Professor of Economics. Dr. Greden Mathews received her BA in Economics, French, and International Affairs from Marquette University and her PhD in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota... Ms. Kim Moore: SDr. Pamela Nickless: Professor of Economics and Director of Interdisciplinary Studies. Dr. Nickless received her B.S. from Indiana State University and her M.S. and Ph.D. from Purdue University... Dr. Joe Sulock: Professor of Economics.
