Distance Learning Services

The primary purpose of the Distance Learning Services unit is to provide instructional and curricular support services to faculty, staff, and students utilizing associated distance learning facilities and equipment at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. 

These facilities and services facilitate teaching, research, learning, and service throughout all campus departments and organizations.  Support services are also provided as a part of the Universities’ public service mission to the greater UNC Asheville campus community, Western North Carolina and the state of North Carolina via the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NC-REN), North Carolina Information Highway (NCIH) and other related networks and associations.

Services include; advanced two way interactive videoconferencing facilities for educational, research and business communication applications via the NC-REN, NCIH and national commercial video networks: IP (Internet Protocol) or ISDN (Integrated Serial Digital Network connection); Internet videoconferencing applications: IP or ISDN;  multimedia systems support, to include analog to digital video capture, video streaming, archival of multimedia material; synchronous and asynchronous web-based content delivery system support; access to Asheville Educational Channel services and support; and traditional video production support and services.
