The
Department of Extension and Distance Education serves as a liaison between the
community and the university by delivering educational services to constituents
in field- based settings. The primary work of the department is to provide both
for-credit and non-credit educational programs and courses that meet the needs
of diverse populations.
Offerings such as the
Great Smokies
Writing program, lateral entry courses for teachers and correctional education
make up the bulk of the "for-credit" courses offered by the department. All of
these courses are offered in community settings convenient to our constituents.
Test preparation classes for high school and
college students prepare students to take the next step in their continuing
lifelong learning. PSAT, SAT, GRE and LSAT
classes are offered throughout the year
for students interested in attaining higher scores on required standardized
tests.
Professional education courses such as Effective Teacher Training
and
special courses designed for targeted populations often carry CEU credits for
individuals needing to document professional development.
