Cultural & Special Events 09-10 Series Preview
The 2009-10 Performing Arts &
Distinguished Speakers series season is shaping up to be a
terrific year!
What's coming up? Authentic Japanese Taiko drummers Nagata Shachu on September 30. Classical violin inspired by jazz, rock & hip-hop Daniel Bernard Roumain (dbr) on October 24. Participation in the 2nd Annual Visualizing Human Rights "Anti-Conference" on November 14. The inimitable North Carolina Symphony Orchestra performing a Holiday pops concert on December 10. The spring semester will bring an opportunity to purchase campus community discount tickets for nicholas leichter dance at the Diana Wortham Theatre on February 26-27, UNC Asheville Homecoming Weekend. Emerging "legend-in-her-own-time" jazz bass player and singer, Esperanza Spalding and her ensemble perform on March 2 in celebration of Women's History Month.... and watch for an announcement of a major speaker on current issues. Nearly all our offerings will have campus and/or community lecture/demonstrations, pre- or post-performance discussions, workshops and open rehearsals. These are extra chances to meet these influential artists and speakers up close and personal and learn more about how and why they do what they do. Tickets for all events will be available online beginning in August, 2009. You may call 828.251.6991 for more information or if you have questions. The Office of Cultural & Special Events (CASE) works to extend classroom learning by providing a wide array of diverse programs that enrich, educate and entertain our students, campus community and the community-at-large. CASE presentations feature world-class, professional performing artists and major speakers. CASE is a member of the NC Presenters Consortium. The 150 member venues of the NC Presenters Consortium and calendars of their events may be visited at www.ncpresenters.org.
