Legacy Website
Shutting down the legacy server
On December 31st, 2012, ITS will be disabling FTP and FrontPage access to the legacy webserver (rocky2.unca.edu, www2.unca.edu, students.unca.edu, facstaff.unca.edu, orgs.unca.edu). On May 31st, 2013, ITS will shut down that server permanently. Read more about the planned shutdown.
Accessing the old server
On February 5th, 2010, UNC Asheville launched the new webserver, with a new content management system. Users who continue to maintain sites on the old webserver should follow the instructions below to ensure they can connect.
In general, website editors should configure their software to connect to rocky2.unca.edu (www2.unca.edu will also work).
Personal webpages are found on students.unca.edu, facstaff.unca.edu, and orgs.unca.edu. If you are prompted for a folder name, use _personal for these sites.
Users who want their legacy website to look like the Drupal pages can download (right-click, save link as) the CMS Redesign Template.
- FrontPage (Using Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7 or 8, or opening files directly)
- Visual Web Developer Express
- Dreamweaver
- SSH, WinSCP, Fetch, and other SFTP applications

SSH, WinSCP, Fetch and other Secure FTP applications
Secure FTP allows you to login to the site and upload files directly to the server. We recommend only advanced users connect via SFTP. Note that UNC Asheville does not support insecure FTP.
Depending on your program, you may need to create and/or edit a "site" or "profile". When prompted, enter the following information:
Host Name: rocky2.unca.edu
Port: 22
Directory: your website directory (Personal webpages on students.unca.edu, facstaff.unca.edu should use _personal for the directory.)
- This is the same username and password you use for OnePort. If you don’t remember your password, you can reset it here.
- If you’re not sure whether you know your username and password, you can test it here.
- Don’t forget to include underdognet\ in front of your username!
