On Campus

A wide variety of software is in use around the UNCA campus throughout the school year. Some of these applications are installed and used by students on their personal computers. The rest are applications that are bought and maintained by UNCA staff for public use. This software is provided for use to all students and employees of UNCA throughout the campus on public computers.

Most of these computers contain the necessary software to do word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, web browsing, and file transfer. The most commonly provided programs for these purposes include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and WS_FTP.

While such software is usually installed on the public computers on campus, there are exceptions and variations between the different computer labs and smart classrooms. If you would like specific details about each lab and classroom please visit:

UNCA Recommendations

For students wishing to bring personal computers on the UNCA campus there are some minimum requirements that should be met to be sure that the UNCA network can be accessed and used in a safe manner. In addition to the networking requirements, there are recommendations for software that should be used to assist with classwork and computer maintenance.
