The Authentication Project for UNCA Faculty and Staff

The Single Signon Project or 'The ITS Holy Grail’

As of August 2005, UNCA ITS is engaged in reduced signon project. While usernames for most IT services are currently the same, passwords are frequently maintained separately and keeping them synchronized to be the same is the responsibility of our users.   

We are moving toward an environment where a single username and password will gain users access to everything from their desktop computers to all the services offered to faculty, staff and students.  The first step in this project is underway.  A growing list of services are now authenticated through the underdognet domain which manages access to services.  If you are not current 'attached' to the domain, it is likely that an ITS consultant will make and appointment and visit you to attach your office computer to the domain and explain what services are available to you.
