Eta Sigma Phi is the National Classics Honor Society for students who have demonstrated excellence in the study of the classical world. Our local chapter, Eta Tau, was inaugurated in 2003, and is advised by Prof. Lora Holland. New members are invited to join early in the spring semester, and initiation and new officer elections follow. Jessup Pyloros: Ally McCall Eta Sigma Phi, Eta Tau Chapter is active in service to the University, recently volunteering in the UNC-Asheville OneCard office to help get the new OneCards made and distributed to all students, staff, and faculty for the start of the fall term. Eta Tau also hosted a Classics Movie Night August 31, 2006 "Clash of the Titans," and January 26, 2007 "Mommie Dearest," which features an ax-wielding Joan Crawford who is very mean to her son and daughter in the absence of a father figure. Eta Tau and Phi Sigma Tau, the Philosophy Honor Society, along with The Classical Society joined forces to host the first annual Halloween Party this fall at Asheville Pizza. A good time was had by all. Dr. Wilson was, by all accounts, awesome on the dance machine. Even though Dr. Holland came as the Delphian Pythia, she couldn't predict that she was destined for a turn on the dance machine, too. 2006-2007 Eta Tau Chapter Officers: Prytanis: Nikki Espie, Hyparchos: Nich Mauriello, Grammateus: Julie Williams, Chrysophylax: Will Farley, Pyloros: Jeremy Parrish |
