Center for Jewish Studies at UNCA

More About CJS

Established in 1982, the Center for Jewish Studies at UNCA is a part of the University and a part of the Community. It draws on the resources of both, provides services and programming for both, and brings the people of the university and the larger community together intellectually and spiritually. The governing board is made up of interested persons from the UNCA faculty and administration and members of the local Jewish community including, as ex officio members, the rabbis of the Conservative and Reform Congregations.

The Center initiates, sponsors and encourages the study of Jewish history and culture. It also . . .

  • provides information to the public on Judaism and Jewish history and culture, by means of courses, conferences, workshops, lectures and other presentations;

  • assists local educators in teaching subjects that relate to Jews and Judaism, particularly the Holocaust;

  • collects and preserves archival materials of local and general Jewish historical interest in conjunction with The Ramsey Library Judaica Collection.
