The Minimum Wage increases to $7.25 per hour effective on July 24, 2009

 

 

The minimum wage in North Carolina is currently $6.55 per hour. 

 

 

Effective on Friday, July 24, 2009, the federal minimum wage increases to $7.25 per hour.  In North Carolina, employers are required to pay the higher of the state or federal minimum wages.  Therefore, beginning on July 24, 2009, the minimum that you can pay your employees is $7.25 per hour.

 

 

Since July 24th falls during the July 15th through August 14th pay period for student employees, any of your student employees who are currently being paid less than $7.25 per hour will need to submit two time sheets for that period.

 

 

Example for a minimum wage employee:

 

Time sheet #1 will be for July 15th through July 23rd at $6.55 per hour

 

– and –

 

Time sheet #2 will be for July 24th through August 14th at $7.25 per hour
