Michael Stuart,
Professor emeritus.
Ph. D., North Carolina State University.
Dr. Stuart retired in 2008 after serving in the Biology Department for 22 years. He came to UNCA with
16 years of experience in the zoological field
and in captive husbandry of wild animals as
assistant director of the Monroe, Louisiana Zoo and
manager of the Duke University Primate Center. His
research interests while at UNCA concerned the ecological interactions
between parasites and hosts. Dr. Stuart was a renowned teacher and received several teaching awards. In 1995 he was selected to
be the first faculty member from UNCA to be awarded
the prestigous Board of Governors Award for Teaching
Excellence.
