Senior Class Board

Mission

The Senior Class Board serves as the executive leadership body of the current year’s graduating class. The Senior Class Board works with the Divisions of Alumni & Development, Student Affairs, Athletics and Academic Affairs to enhance students’ experience during their final year at UNC Asheville through program and events that will encourage a lifelong relationship between graduates and the University. The Senior Class Board is also responsible for ringing the Victory Bell at Commencement and presenting the Freshman Class Tree at Convocation. 

Selection & Requirements

The membership of the Senior Class Board is limited to 18 individuals, but is open to all students with a GPA of 2.5 or better who will graduate in the next 18 months. Members are recruited through self-nomination, peer nomination, and by recommendations of University faculty and staff. Members are selected from the nominated pool based on demonstrated interest, ability to perform required duties, skills, and representation of peer segments such as majors, student organizations, and student activities. The selection committee will include representatives from Alumni, Development, Student Affairs, and the current Senior Class Board.

 Goals

• Develop meaningful partnerships between the graduation class and appropriate campus departments
• Assist with planning and implementation of the Senior Experience (the programs and activities for the graduating class)
• Set Senior Campaign goals and assist with promotion and fund-raising

 Responsibilities

• Attend monthly Senior Class Board meetings (typically 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. on a Tuesday)
• Attend and volunteer during Senior Class Board sponsored programs and events
• Serve on one Senior Class Board Committee
• Make a personal gift to the Senior Campaign
• Participate in fundraising efforts for the Senior Campaign including personal solicitations and calling during the senior phonathon

 Committees (subject to change)

Public Relations/Marketing Committee: Helps develop the language and images used for communication with the senior class, such as e-newsletter, webpage, Facebook, letters, emails, campus signage and logos. Works with the Events Committee on invitations to events (Evites, etc.)   

 Events Committee: Assists with planning special events and programs such as cookouts, cocktail parties, Grad Finale, career day, or field day. Recommends the selection of event date, event times, menus, decorations, and locations.  Coordinates space and equipment reservations and event setup. Works with Public Relations/Marketing Committee on invitations to events (Evites, etc).
