Bulldogs Take on the Tarheels - January 9 at 7 p.m.
Coming off a win against the other Carolina (61-58), the UNC
Asheville Men’s Basketball Team is on fire. Be sure to watch as
the Bulldogs take on the No. 1 ranked Tarheels.

Homecoming 2008 - February 21-23
Reconnect with your old pals, check out
the campus, and enjoy great Bulldog Basketball. Now is the time
to pick up the phone or drop an email to your friends and ask
them to meet you on campus for Homecoming 2008. We have a great
weekend planned. Highlights include the pre-game tailgate, an
alumni post game reception at Wild Wings Café, the Annual Alumni
Art Show and the dance, not to mention great Bulldog Basketball
(men’s and women’s). Check out all of the activities at the

UNC Asheville Offers Distance Learning Courses for Lateral Entry
Teachers Beginning in January: UNC Asheville will host two distance learning courses
designed for lateral entry teachers beginning in January. The
three-credit hour courses, "Methods and Materials of Teaching in
the 6-12 Classroom for Lateral Entry Teachers" and "Educational
Psychology for Lateral Entry Teachers," will be offered via
teleconference and the Internet.

months of meeting with thousands of citizens across North
Carolina, the UNC Tomorrow Commission is pleased to present its

Tapped as UNC Asheville Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic
Affairs: On December 15, the UNC Asheville Board
of Trustees accepted Chancellor Anne Ponder’s recommendation to
name Jane K. Fernandes the University's new Provost and Vice
Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

UNC Asheville Awards Chancellor's Medallion to K. Ray Bailey;
Former A-B Tech President Receives University's Highest Honor at
Winter Commencement:
UNC Asheville
honored K. Ray Bailey, president emeritus of Asheville-Buncombe
Technical Community College and long-time champion of higher
education in Western North Carolina, with the Chancellor's
Medallion Saturday, Dec. 15. UNC Asheville Chancellor Anne
Ponder presented the award, the University's highest
non-academic distinction, to Bailey during the Winter
Commencement Ceremony.

Asheville Chamber Singers Perform at White House; Group is Only
N.C. College Choir Invited to Sing: While most
college students were enjoying winter break and unwinding from
final exams, some 20 UNC Asheville student singers busily
rehearsed holiday music for the performance of a lifetime. UNC
Asheville's University Chamber Singers, the university's
premiere student voice ensemble, performed at the White House on
December 19. The group, which sang for VIP tours at the Holiday
Open House, was the only North Carolina college choir invited to
perform at the White House this holiday season. While in D.C.,
the group also took the opportunity to sing for wounded soldiers
returning from Iraq and Afghanistan at Walter Reed Hospital.

Bulldogs Shock Gamecocks 61-58:
UNC Asheville
finished the game on a 10-0 run over the final 3:56 to erase a
seven-point deficit and give the Bulldogs a 61-58 victory over
South Carolina at the Colonial Center.

Player named Big South Player of the Week: UNC
Asheville junior Kenny George (Chicago, Ill.) and VMI junior
Chavis Holmes (Charlotte, N.C.) were selected as the Big South
Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week
for games played from January, 1-6.

Campaign Begins: Over the next few weeks you will
be contacted asking for support of UNC Asheville. Your financial
investment in the University helps your Alma Mater continue to
offer one of the nation’s leading liberal arts educations.
Although state support for higher education remains strong in
North Carolina, state dollars account for only 42 percent of the
University’s budget and tuition only 19 percent. The difference
is made up through the through the generous support and
