William (Bill) F. Plyler, II,
now resides in Lynchburg Va. He owns and operates Sound Consulting Inc, a bank and business consulting firm that helps understand true cash flows and thus assure proper lending structure and amounts. (5/19/08)

Sidney Martin just retired June 29, 2007 after 35 years as an anesthetist.  He is looking forward to doing some traveling, taking up golf, and enjoying a small condo he recently purchased near Blowing Rock, NC.  He will divide his time between NC and FL. (8/28/07)

Nancy Dillingham has published another volume of combined fiction and poetry, "Thanks for the Dark but That's Not Home". (8/06)

William (Bill) F. Plyler, II, senior vice president and chief credit officer, was recently recognized by The Risk Management Association for becoming Credit Risk Certified, and achievement only obtained by 281 credit risk professionals in the industry.

1968
John Moore is the author of several books. His first, Chemistry for Dummies, has been translated into several foreign languages. Science journal reported it to be the 8th best selling popular science book in 2006. He has just received the SFA Foundation's Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Tom Dechant
has been named the dean of learning resources at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.

1975
Zollie Stevenson, Jr.
has been named Deputy Director of the Federal Title 1 Program at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, DC. Title I provides nearly 14 billion dollars to districts and schools to support the provision of compensatory education services to high poverty low achieving students.

1976
Judy S. Bond
received a promotion to consumer lender at Carolina First. She works at the Patton Ave. branch. (11/5/07)

Col. Pamela L. Adams, married to Stephen Harvey '78, recently retired from the US Army following 31 years of active and reserve service in command and staff positions. She is a Bronze Star Medal recipient, awarded in 2004 for her service during hostilities in Iraq while serving as Commander, 300 Area Support Group in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

1977
After graduation from UNCA, Bob McCall spent five years on active duty as a Supply Corps officer in the Navy. After the Navy he went to law school and he has been practicing law for over twenty years. He advises contracting officers and flag officers on legal issues concerning the acquisition of the latest weapons and aircraft for the United States Navy. He also is a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol. He and his two children reside on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay in bucolic Lexington Park, Maryland.

David Anderson
has worked for 25 years in San Francisco, CA, as a Project Manager for Bechtel, Bank of America and other large firms.  He designed and built high-rises in San Francisco, worked in Canada, Saudi Arabia and across the continental US as a Designer, Project Manager.  He started his own architect practice in California in 2002 and now consults on commercial and residential projects throughout Northern CA. Ricky McDevitt was appointed to the National Parks, Parkway and Forest Development Council by Governor Mike Easley.

Marcus Kindley, Co-Owner and CEO of Intercarolina Financial Services, a full service stock brokerage has recently completed the testing for Mortgage Loan Officer and has formed the Intercarolina Mortgage Group, L.L.C. The Intercarolina Mortagage Group provides residential as well as commercial mortgage lending. IN addition Mr. Kindley recently returned from a trip to Copenhagen Denmark where he and his wife Gay stayed at the United States Ambassador James Cain's residence and attended a reception for newly posted diplomats as well as their counterparts in the Danish Government. Mr. Kindley is the Chairman of the Guilford County Republican Party a position he has held since 2001. Mr. Kindley will also be dining with the President when he visits Greensboro later in the month of October.

1980
Darrell Parker
received to prestigious appointments in higher education. He is serving on the South Carolina Delegation of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the regional accrediting body in the 11 U.S. Southern States. He was also named to the Board of the Southern Business Administration Association, the regional association of collegiate business programs. (3/20)

Karen-Eve Bayne, after 25 years, has returned to WNC to live and perform.  After 15 years abroad as a Director in International businesses, Karen-Eve has come home to her roots. For the past 7 years, she has been living in the wilds of the west of England on the Welsh border, consulting and performing as a founder of Midnight Storytellers.co.uk. European audiences found her southern and mildly mountain accent charming and her stories dramatic, inspiring and entertaining. Often featured in UK magazines and BBC radio, Karen-Eve, a 21st century bard, specializes in entertainment & workshops for adults and students. She favors powerful storylines in theology, intrigue, values and the challenges of being human in the age of technology to mesmerize listeners. She will be performing stories at lunchtime at the UNCA Kellog Center in Hendersonville on May 19 at 12:30 pm for picnickers; and then will accompany visitors on a story walk trip along the sculpture trail, departing at 2:30 from the patio. Ron Caldwell has completed work on his first book, "Days and Nights in Parisienne Heights" and is working on a novel entitled "The Leading Man".

Dr. Darrell F. Parker has been named the dean of the School of Business Administration and Economics at the University of South Carolina Upstate.

Michael Ochsenreiter is Deputy Director, HQ Air Force Services Agency, San Antonio, Texas, where he manages communications and computer systems for all Air Force Services worldwide, as well as the Agency headquarters.

Nanette Slappey joined the CPA firm of Taylor, Miles and Associates, P.A.

1981
Erwin Cook
lectured on “Greeks in the East: The Early Years” at the Claremont Athenaeum in California in March. His 1999 article "Active and Passive Heroics in the Odyssey" was selected as "one of the most influential articles on Homer in the last 30 years" for inclusion in Oxford Readings in the Odyssey. His 2003 article, "Near Eastern Sources for the Palace of Alkinoos in the Homeric Odyssey," was selected for inclusion in an edited volume, When Worlds Collide: Multiculturalism in the Archaeological Record. He is now serving on the editorial board of Trinity University Press. (3/07)

Jack Meadows retired from the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office on January 1, 2006 after 25 years of service.

Robert T. Koenig was recently named as the faculty member of the month by Remington College in Memphis, TN.  Koenig teaches English, speech and career development

Donna Temple retired with her husband, Phil, to Islesboro Island in Maine. She has a Sea Glass Jewelry business and wrote a children's book, The True Story of Rocky the Seal, illustrated by daughter-in-law, Pamela Gregory Seymour ('96). (3/20)

Col. Keith A. Mabry has graduated from the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle, PA.  He is director of personnel at the Joint Forces Headquarters in Raleigh.

Elizabeth Tait
will be starting her Ph.D dissertation in Health Services Research this Fall. She has experience in management and teaching. (6/6/08)

Tom Steele has been named to the Super Lawyer list for North Carolina. Steele concentrates on real property law. He is a board certified specialist in real property law – residential, business, commercial and industrial transactions. (3/20/2008)

Gary Waddell lives in San Francisco and is the Administrator of Curriculum Services for a bay area county supporting 24 school districts. He was formerly a school principal in both California and North Carolina. Gary has been the recipient of the NC Human Rights Award, the Award for Programs that Build Self-Esteem, the Principals' Leadership Program's Jack McCall Award, and was recognized as the 1992 North Carolina Elementary Counselor of the Year and NCCA's Outstanding New Professional. He has lived in San Francisco since 2003.

Michael Cogdill took home 5 Southern Regional Emmy Awards on June 17 in Atlanta. Michael has won 21 Emmys over 17 years as a reporter and anchor at WYFF4 television (NBC) in the Asheville-Greenville-Spartanburg market. (7/7/06)

Charles T. Steele, Jr. was on the 2007 list's top 5 percent of lawyers in his field, as identified by Super Lawyers, a polling and research effort of a publication called Law & Politics. Annually in many states, including North Carolina, Super Lawyers asks attorneys to pick the most competent members of their specialties. Steel works for the Burlington office of Wishart Norris Henninger & Pittman, PA.

June Fowler has been chosen as the director of the Swannanoa Valley Youth Development Center, in Swannanoa, NC.

Ann Brown Ross was featured as one of 100 women nationally, in the new book, Firestarters: 100 Job Profiles to Inspire Young Women by Dale Salvaggio and Kelly Beatty. The book features women whose career achievements are an inspiration to girl and young women exploring career options. Ann is the writer of the Miss Julia novels.(6/15/06)

Charles Thomas (Tom) Steele, Jr. of the Wishart Norris Henninger & Pittman law office was listed in the January 2006 issue of Business North Carolina magazine among its “Legal Elite” in real estate law.  The magazine said less than 3 percent of NC’s lawyers are included in the “elite” listings in several law categories.  The selection is based on peer interviews. Tom has also been appointed to serve as vice chairman of the Real Property Law Section Council of the N.C. Bar Association. (6/7/06)

Ben Goldsmith has been hired by the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) in Rosman, NC as Site Support Engineer and will responsible for over-seeing PARI's technical infrastructure. (9/07)

Gina Worley Maynard was recently named Associate Manager of Training Development for Long John Silver's and A&W Restaurants, a division of YUM! Brands in Louisville, KY. She also serves as the Vice President of Communications for the American Society for Training and Development in Kentuckiana. She and her husband, Rick, reside in Louisville. (3/07)

Jennie Jones Giles was awarded the Woman of the Year Award by the Abraham Kuykendall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The award is given to an outstanding person who earned the respect and credentials in her profession and made contributions to the community. (12/06)

Alan Lewis Robinson Branch Manager of Ameritime Mortgage's Asheville ,NC office on 53 North Market Street  suite 3 received his MBA  from the University of Phoenix, with a specialty in Global Management on January 30th, 2007. He will walk in formal ceremonies at the Charlotte Campus of the University of Phoenix on May 20th , 2007. Jennifer Ammons-Moreno was named principal for Rosman Middle School by the Transylvania County Schools Board of Education in July 2006.

Greg Newman is an attorney with Blanchard, Newman and Hayes. He and wife Kim and children Ryan, Alexis and Parker live in Hendersonville.

William B. Blount's wife, Shannon is employed as a Reading Coach for the Martin County School System in Stuart, FL. On May 1, 2006 William was promoted to President and CEO of Integrity Bank, a community bank headquartered in Jupiter, FL. In June, 2007, he will graduate from Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He has resided on Florida's Treasure Coast since. (3/07)

R. David Proffitt has joined the Columbia law firm of Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. as an associate attorney working on municipal litigation and regulatory and administrative matters.

Dorrie Pratt graduated from General Theological Seminary in New York, May 2005. She is now the Rev. Deacon Dorrie L. Pratt in charge for St. Agnes Episcopal Church and St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church.

Karla Raxter brought home top honors as the 2007-08 Teacher of the Year for Henderson County Public Schools.  She teaches kindergarten at Glenn C. Marlow Elementary School. (5/07)

Beverly Knupp was married March 3, 2007, in Hendersonville, NC to Terry Rudolph. She will graduate from the UNC Chapel Hill School of Education with a Masters in School Administration this May 13. She is currently a principal intern at East Chapel Hill High School. (3/07)

Butch Hayes has been named to the Texas Super Lawyers list for 2007.  The annual list recognizes the top 5 percent of attorneys statewide.  Attorneys are ranked by their peers, as well as through independent research performed by Law & Politics magazine.  Butch is a partner with Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP in Austin, TX.

Bronwyn Burleson is announced a 2006 Diamond Award Winner for outstanding achievement of women in business by the Western Carolina Business Journal.  Nominees are owners or employees of for-profit businesses operating in Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Madison, and Transylvania Counties, who have shown creativity, leadership, or outstanding innovation in the prior year.

Louis Caliendo is recipient of the Gaston County Police Department's "2006 Officer of The Year Award", "Officer of the Month Award", along with the Department's "Medal of Valor".  He was also nominated for a "Carnegie Medal" for the January 2006 rescue of an unconscious Gastonia resident from a smoke filled apartment. Amy Thompson Peterzell
is the Marketing Director for the Atlanta Girls' School and lives in Buckhead with her husband, Scott, and two children. (08/11/08)

Patrick Britz was promoted to commissioner in the South Atlantic Conference. He is the second commissioner in the Conference's history. Before the SAC, Britz worked as the Division 1 intercollegiate programs director for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. (6/17/08)

Marilyn Ball celebrated her 17th year with Kelso Advertising and Design. She began working for the company shortly before graduating from UNC Asheville. (5/27/08)

Dr. Donna Tipton-Rogers was elected by the Board of Trustees as the next president of Tri-County Community College.  She is married to Hayden Rogers and has two daughters, Torin, 3, and Lochlan, 2.  She lives in Robbinsville. (10/8/07)

Amy Thompson Peterzell lives in Atlanta and is a marketing consultant for a Washington, DC-based political technology company.  She and her husband Scott have a three year old named Zoe and a baby named Griffin. (12/06)

Ron E. Honeycutt was recently promoted to Director of Sales, Southwest Division at Boston Scientific. He is responsible for six regional sales managers, 41 sales representatives and growing over $100 million in annual revenue.

Greg Rutherford will become the new president of York Technical College of Rock Hill, SC on February 1, 2007.

On March 8, 2006 Mary Frick adopted adopted a son, Douglas Morrow Frick, born February 23,2006.

Michelle "Shelly" Walton Cady and husband Darren had their third child, Michael David Cady on July 18, 2006.

Patrick Britz co-authored the book "Athletic Scholarships for Dummies" with Alexandra Allred. The book is a how-to guide for parents and students.(6/26/06)

Pam Gutherie has been named account manager for Smith Advertising at the Raleigh office.

Edward Hill was recognized as the 2005 Optimist of the Year by the Albemarle Optimist Club.  One of his goals is to begin an after school nature education center in Albemarle, NC.

Natalie Reinbold Pruett lives in Charlotte, NC, and works as the director of communications for Charlotte Country Day School. Natalie and her husband are the proud parents of two children; Sophia, 5 and Sam, 1.

has opened the Artist Studio in Brevard, N.C.

Samantha Wesley is director of Christian education and children's ministry at First United Methodist Church is Salisbury. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Rowan County Habitat for Humanity and is involved in many local and overseas missions.

Raynia J. White has been promoted to Assistant Vice President of Bank of Asheville.  She is responsible for commercial and consumer lending.

1992
Oklahoma City television station KOCO-5 hired Paul Folger as news anchor. He began on July 21. Previously, Folger worked as a weekday morning and news anchor for WTEV in Jacksonville, Fla.

Jennifer King works as the business manager for the Global Energy and Loan Syndications groups in the investment banking division of WestLB, a German bank, based in New York City. Her and her husband Matt are expecting their first child in August 2008. (3/08)

Craig Malz and his wife Angela live in Concord, NC with their 2 children, MacKenzie and Cohen.  Craig is a Process Improvement Manager for Wachovia Corp. in Charlotte, NC.

Jeff (Coach) Epley and wife Rebecca had their third son, Thomas Calvin Epley, on July 28, 2007. (9/07)

Tiffany Schoff and Mario Vickram Sen were married on June 30, 2007.  The couple resides in Hackensack, NJ. (8/28/07)

Mark Edward and Katie Diane Harrah were married on April 14, 2007. The wedding took place in Waynesville.

Jeffrey Porter is currently living and practicing public accounting in Morristown, TN. He is also pursuing a Masters of New Testament - Preaching degree from Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, TN for a second career in ministry. (3/07)

Lisa Wright completed her MA degree in English in July, 2005 and is currently the Director of Communications for VirtualLogger, LLC.  She resides in charlotte with her husband and two sons, ages 7 and 2. (12/06)

Andy Digh will be attending the ACM World Finals Programming Contest in Tokyo, Japan with three of his programming team students in March. They qualified after finishing second in the ACM Southeastern Regional's last fall. Andy has coached the team for nine years, and this is the first time in their school's history to attend the finals.

Jeff (Coach) Epley and Rebecca  have had two children since wedding in January 2003. David was born June 8, 2004 and Joseph was born March 6, 2006. The family lives in South Asia serving the people there.

Jeff Porter is a CPA with Craine Thompson & Jones, PC in Morristown, TN and a graduate student at Johnson Bible College pursuing a Masters of Arts in New Testament - Preaching degree. He has been married to Lynn for 22 years and is the father of 2 daughters, ages 15 and 8.

Jennifer Ward-Batts
completed her Ph.D. at the University of Washington in 1999. Since 2001, she has been an assistant professor at Claremont McKenna College. For the 2008-2009 academic year, Jennifer will be working on research as a Fulbright senior researcher at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, before beginning a new faculty position at Wayne State University in Detroit. Shawn Fitzpatrick joined Southern Community Bank & Trust of Asheville as a mortgage loan officer.

Leslie Bell Wilder works at WLOS, where she started out as an intern. She now produces the noon show and met her husband at work, who works as a photographer. (4/27/08)

Wes Behrend serves as the station manager for the Contract Weather Office at the FAA facility in Charleston, SC. He has been in the position for six years, providing aviation weather and making sure commercial, private, and military aircraft receive up-to-date weather information in the interests of safety for the flying public. Derek Allen was named "Young Gun" among in the Jan 2008 issue of Business North Carolina Magazine. The poll named Allen, whose specialty is land use and development, the best lawyer in the state under 40. (1/17/08)

Robert Price has joined Coldwell Banker Kasey & Associates in their Black Mountain Office. (11/7/07)

West Asheville-based media artist/entrepreneur David McConville founded the Media Arts Project (themap.org) and co-organized the first regional Design Science Lab (designsciencelab.org) with the Buckminster Fuller Institute. (10/10/07)

Blue Ridge Community College has named Chad Merrill the director of the college's Transylvania Center. (10/8/07)

Michael Cody, an associate professor in the ETSU Department of English, has been selected for the position of director of the University Honors and Midway Scholars Programs within the Honors College. (9/07)

Shawn Fitzpatrick of Carolina First Bank has been promoted to senior vice president.  He joined the bank in June 2002 and is a commercial relationship manager in Asheville, NC. (8/07)

Claudia Bryant was elected president of the N.C. Political Science Association. She is an assistant professor of political science at Western Carolina University. (7/07)

Paul A. Fanning of Greenville, a lawyer with the firm of Ward and Smith, is one of nine of the firm's attorneys to be listed in Business North Carolina's 2007 edition of "Legal Elite". (4/07)

She is the Media Relations Supervisor and spokesperson for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, one of the largest school districts in the United States. During her last year in television, she was nominated for an Emmy award for Outstanding Newscast by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Sarah Addison Allen has published her first book, Garden Spells, a contemporary romantic fantasy. It has garnered a Bantam imprint, a Books Sense Book of the Month promotion and a Barnes & Noble featured title status.  She resides in Asheville, NC, where she is currently at work on her next novel, The Sugar Queen, which will be published by Bantam in Summer 2008.

Lieutenant Commander Darrell Lynn Keller, Jr. is currently the Tactical Action Officer on the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan. He recently deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of IRAQI and ENDURING FREEDOM. In 2004, he deployed to Antarctica in support of NASA's ICESAT project to measure the melting icecaps. In 2005, he completed a second BA in Philosophy at Saint Mary's College of Maryland. He earned a MA in Liberal Studies from Excelsior College in 2006 and is earning a second Master's Degree in Humanities at Salve Regina University.

John Jump was recently promoted to the position of Claims Administrative Manager for a three-state operation that includes Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. Due to the promotion, he and his wife moved to the Atlanta area in October. He has been employed with Nationwide for the past 11 years. Mount Washington Observatory, a scientific and educational institution announces Bryan Farr as one of the selected college graduates to serve this fall in one of the country's most thrilling internships. Farr will be living and working at the Observatory's sophisticated weather station located on the summit of Mount Washington, the tallest peak in the Northern United States. (10/06)

Mischa Irsch obtained an MBA from Montreat in 2002 and relocated to Boston shortly thereafter. Through 2006 he worked at State Street Global Markets in the foreign exchange division where he simultaneously worked towards his CFA charter. After obtaining his CFA designation, Mischa was promoted to Vice President and joined the Bank of NY Mellon's currency trading desk as a currency sales trader.

Leigh Ann Henion is a freelance writer and photographer based in Boone, North Carolina. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in publications such as Smithsonian, The Washington Post Magazine, The Sun, The Christian Science Monitor and Orion. She holds an M.A. in Appalachian Studies and is a graduate of the Maine-based Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. In addition to her freelance work, Leigh Ann teaches writing at Appalachian State University.

Jesse Dail received the Northeastern District of the North Carolina Public Health Association-Environmental Health Section's annual award for Environmental Health Specialist Rookie of the Year. The award is presented annually to an Environmental Health Specialist who has been employed no longer than three years and is actively contributing to the field of Environmental Health. Jesse is employed with the Environmental Health Divison of Carteret County's Health Department in Morehead City, NC.

Jesse Dail and Casey Quell (’05) were united in marriage on May 24, 2008. Jesse works as an environmental health specialist with Carteret County. Casey is employed as a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Newport/Morehead City.

The team won second place in the Visual Presentation category for a design of a special section previewing the NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments.
