Steps to Prepare for Your Advising Appointment
THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOUR ADVISING APPOINTMENT

1. Run a DegPAR report to review your academic progress. If you have already declared your major, select the “Generate New Degree Progress Report” option. If you have not yet declared your major, select the “What if Analysis” option.
2. Prepare a 2-year plan with a list of courses you want to take.

3. Review the upcoming semester’s Class Schedule on the Registrar's web site.
4. Create a list of at least 3 questions you want to ask your advisor during your appointment. At the
bottom of this list is an area to record your RAN so you won’t forget to ask your advisor for it.

5. Are you ready to declare your major? Your minor? Your Topical Cluster? If so, pick up the
corresponding forms at OneStop Student Services so you and your advisor can complete them during
your advising appointment.

To declare your major, you need to complete a “Declaration of Major ■ Change of Major ■ Change of Major Advisor” form.

To declare your minor, you need to complete a “Declaration of Minor ■ Changing Minor ■ Dropping Minor” form.

To declare your Topical Cluster, you need to complete a “Declaration of ILS Topical Cluster” form.
6. Make sure you know your GPA, classification, and which date the registration system will open for
you.
