A significant part of embark will be devoted to planning your schedule and registering for classes.
Before you arrive for embark on January 7th, you should spend some time getting acquainted with UNC Asheville's curriculum, reviewing your transfer evaluation and planning your schedule for the spring semester. This is not always a simple task, so allow plenty of time to read over your information and make a list of potential courses to register for (make sure you have a list of back-up courses). During embark, you will meet with an advisor to discuss your plans for the Spring semester before registering for courses, but your preparation begins here and now with the information listed below!

Where do I begin? |
Review the Integrative Liberal Studies (ILS) program, UNC Asheville's core curriculum. The ILS program is unique to UNC Asheville, giving you a firm academic foundation with an emphasis on interdisciplinary exploration. Although we will explain the ILS curriculum requirements during embark, we strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself with the program before arriving at embark. Students who have satisfied the 44-hour General Education Core component of the NC Community College Comprehensive Articulation Agreement have automatically met some of the ILS program requirements. If you fall within this particular category, we have created a checklist that specifically outlines which requirements you have already met. If you have not completed the 44-hour Core, this is fine as well; we have a separate checklist designated for you. |

Are there any courses I must take during my first semester at UNC Asheville? |
All new students are required to take a Liberal Studies Introductory Colloquium Course (LSIC). This course will introduce you to the academic rigor of UNC Asheville as well as help in your transition to our campus community. Transfer LSIC courses are taught in a variety of disciplines throughout our curriculum and are designated by having 379 as their respective course number. |

Log into OnePort to check your information |
OnePort is where you will find your transfer articulation, register for courses, check your email and view your other pertinent information related to your student record. |
|
Review your DegPAR. |
DegPAR (Degree Progress Advising Report) is an advising tool to help you plan your courses for the upcoming semester. It allows you to see the requirements for all of our majors and minors, as well as your academic progress, which is contingent upon our receipt of your final transcripts from your previous school(s). |
|
Begin creating a list of courses to register for during embark. |
Look for courses that fulfill ILS requirements, potential major requirements, and peak your interest. Try to compile a list of at least seven of these courses, noting the priority you assign to them along with the days and times they will meet during the spring semester. Below are several links that will assist you in creating this list. |

Bring your list of potential courses with you to embark. |
Now that you have done some preliminary planning for the upcoming semester, make sure you bring your list of potential courses with you to embark to review during your advising appointment. Doing so will help guide your conversation during your appointment and facilitate its productivity. |

Remember to take care of other important business before you arrive for embark! |
We have taken care of the guesswork for you by creating a checklist that covers all you need to address before you arrive on January 7th. Addressing the items on the checklist before you arrive will allow you to focus on building your Spring semester schedule during embark. |
