Health & Fitness Center

fitness centerThe Health & Fitness Center is open at convenient hours for use of its weight/fitness room; indoor pool; three activity courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton and indoor soccer; three racquetball courts (reservations required); 1/10 mile indoor track; dance studio; and locker room facilities. Intramurals and Sport Clubs

Intramurals Sports teams are open to students, faculty and staff for fall and spring competitions. Each team captain or intramural representative is responsible for forming and entering their own team. All students are invited to join the fun in a favorite sport. Fall competitions include:

Spring Intramurals:

Sport Clubs

Sport Clubs bring together students with a common interest in a sport who wish to promote and develop interest in that sport. Clubs may be instructional, recreational, competitive or may be involved in any combination. Sport Club participation is open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate full-time students and faculty/staff. Individual club constitutions and association rules may also determine membership guidelines.

If your favorite sport, or one you just like to play, is not offered in the Intramurals or Sport Clubs Program, you may consider organizing a club. Current active clubs include women’s fast-pitch softball and cycling.

UNC Asheville Outdoors

outdoorsAccessible, fun and informative outdoor adventures are available throughout the year through the comprehensive Outdoors Program. Excursions in the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains encompass white-water rafting, caving, camping and backpacking, horseback riding, skiing and more. We even take trips to the coast to enjoy beach camping and sea kayaking. UNC Asheville Outdoors offers opportunities for students to expand their horizons through personal growth, social interactions and environmental understanding. In addition, the program fosters the development of student leaders and participants who possess a strong sense of outdoor ethics and leadership skills. The goal of the program is to enhance the educational experience through safe and educational outdoor adventures.

Transportation, essential equipment and guides are provided. Registration begins the first day of each semester in the Outdoors Office, 108 Health & Fitness Center. Join one of the many trips or see what’s offered at www.unca.edu/recreation.

Equipment Rentals

Students may rent equipment and enjoy the great outdoors on their own. We have equipment for backpacking and camping, biking and kayaking—tents and tarps, backpacking and camping stoves, Nalgene bottles, sleeping bags and pads, kayaks, bicycles and related equipment.

Low Ropes Course

Situated in a wooded area across Weaver Boulevard from the campus entrance, this series of problem-solving exercises challenges a group to think creatively and as a team, promoting group dynamics and leadership. The course, donated by Diamond Brand, can be reserved for groups.

Wellness Programs

Wellness Programs include personal training, group exercise classes and workshops and special events, which may include the following:  weight room orientations, core training, nutrition workshops, and programs on weight management, smoking cessation and stress management.
