Financial Aid
The University of North Carolina at Asheville is committed to the policy that no student should miss out on a college education because of limited funds. The university helps eligible students meet educational costs through various forms of assistance. UNC Asheville has a broad program of financial aid for students who qualify on the basis of need and academic potential. Financial aid may consist of a scholarships, grants, loans, work or a combination of all of these. Assistance comes from federal, state and institutional funding.
Scholarships
- The University Laurels Scholarship Program Committee makes academic merit awards to incoming freshmen with outstanding academic achievement and promise. Competitive applicants must have three of the following: rank in the top 10 percent of class, grade-point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, combined SAT (Critical Reading and Math) higher than 1250 or ACT with Writing score higher than 28 and a challenging senior-year curriculum.
- The Leadership Scholars Program offers $1,000 scholarships per year, renewable for the four years. Applicants must demonstrate a solid academic record, talent for leadership, and service in their communities and school.
- Departmental scholarships are available for students once they have declared their major. The department will select students according to the criteria of each scholarship donor. Students should check with the department chairs for more information.
Federal and State Aid
If you wish to apply for federal and/or state aid, you must first apply for a federal PIN number. You can obtain your PIN by going to www.pin.ed.gov. Once you receive your PIN, you will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You may complete the FAFSA online by going to www.fafsa.ed.gov. You will need to list our school code, which is 002907, in order for UNC Asheville to receive the information from the processor.
UNC Asheville is a Direct Lending School and will not accept loan applications from individual lending institutions unless your are applying for an alternative loan.
