Highsmith University Union
The food court in the lower level of Highsmith University Union offers several options for busy students who want to grab a quick bite: Rocky’s Grill & Outtakes to Go (weekdays 10:30 a.m.–11 p.m. and 4–9 p.m. weekends), Panini Fresca & Trattoria (weekdays 11 a.m.–8 p.m.) or Salsaritas (weekdays 11 a.m.–8 p.m.).
A large seating area in the food court offers an excellent spot from which to view the giant 40-by-37-foot replica of the Renaissance masterpiece The School of Athens, which graces an entire wall and lends inspiration to our 21 st-century UNC Asheville scholars. A community art project, the mural was painted by students, alumni, faculty and artists in the community as a symbol of liberal arts learning throughout history.
Café Ramsey
Located off the lobby of Ramsey Library, this snack bar offers hot and cold drinks, including specialty drinks such as lattes and smoothies, soups, fresh salads and sandwiches, in a convenient spot for study breaks and group work. The adjacent Glasshouse, an atrium-like room with tables surrounded by plantings, offers additional space to eat with friends.
Rocky’s Convenience Store
Also located on the lower level of Highsmith University Union, Rocky’s convenience store sells items found at most convenience and grocery stores— bottled water, sodas, health and beauty aids, chips, candy, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, milk and cereal. Rocky’s has a health-foods section, which includes vegetarian and all-natural brands of foods. Gourmet coffees and Celestial Seasonings teas are sold by the cup. Microwavable food—Campbell’s soups, frozen burritos, breakfast biscuits and frozen pizzas—may be purchased and microwaved around the corner in the food court. Phone cards, newspapers and magazines can also be purchased at Rocky’s. Hours are generally Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–11 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.–11 p.m.; and Sunday, 1–11 p.m. 828.251.6865.
