There's
more to a college education than books, computers and course work,
and at UNC Asheville that's especially true. Our scenic
265-acre campus is one mile north of downtown Asheville, the
population center of Western North Carolina, in the heart of the
Blue Ridge Mountains. Asheville rates high in cultural,
recreational and educational opportunities. An All-American
city, Asheville is described as one of the country's most livable
cities. "Asheville has it all," says Outside
magazine.

More
than a million acres of national parks and forests are close by for
all kinds of outdoor adventure along the Blue Ridge Parkway and in
the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Mount Mitchell State Park
and several national forests. The Bent Creek Area of Pisgah
National Forest is home to the North Carolina Arboretum and 50 miles
of trails for walking, running, and mountain biking. A great
training area, Bent Creek is minutes away and served by campus
transportation.
We
take advantage of our prime location by providing campus-sponsored
trips that involve rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, mountain
biking, camping, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, white-water rafting,
skiing and more. Our students use the natural
"laboratories" that surround UNC Asheville for study in
the sciences.
Asheville's
revitalized downtown mixes mountain culture and modern life. Coffee
houses and ethnic restaurants, clubs and night spots, shopping malls
and craft shops, art galleries and museums all make Asheville a
place where diverse interests and activities thrive. A year-round
entertainment lineup runs to various tastes, from mountain dance and
folk festivals to popular music concerts, theatre productions and
film series.
The
Asheville metropolitan area's population is 286,000 and growing, as
Asheville gains a national reputation as an excellent place to live
and work. Asheville has it all -- nightlife, shopping, dining and
entertainment -- in a beautiful mountain environment. Come see for
yourself.
