General Payment Rule
Students are expected to pay by the dates
noted below for any portion of their tuition, fees, room and board that
will not be covered by financial aid, scholarships, Voc Rehab, VA
benefits, or who do not have a payment plan through Tuition Management
Systems.
Payment Due Dates
Pre-registered Students
For students who have pre-registered for the semester they plan to
attend:
-
Fall semester payment for pre-registered students
is due by August 1, 2008
-
Spring semester payment for pre-registered
students is due by December 15, 2008
Students Who Are
Not Pre-registered
Students who have not
pre-registered for the semester they plan to attend are required to
pay in full for the classes they intend to take prior to
registering for any classes.
Billing Methods
To try to insure that each student
receives his or her bill from UNC Asheville, we send the bill to all
pre-registered students by two methods. First, we send a bill
via e-mail to the student's UNC Asheville e-mail address. Second,
we send a paper bill to the student at the "billing" address in
the student's Banner record. For the paper bill, it is important
that the student's billing address be active and current. If your
"billing" address is not current or needs to be changed, please contact
the Registrar's office to change your billing address.
Payment Plan
UNC Asheville offers a monthly payment
plan option through a partnership with Tuition Management Systems (TMS).
Any student may take advantage of a monthly payment plan through TMS.
You may contact TMS at www.afford.com
or by calling 1.800.356.8329 to set up a payment plan.
Students attending the fall semester must
have established a payment plan with TMS by August 1st. Students
attending the spring semester must have established a payment plan with
TMS by December 15th. Students who miss these dates will not be
able to establish a payment plan for the semester and will be expected
to make payment in full prior to registering for classes.
Health Insurance Requirement
Beginning with the Fall 2008 semester all full time undergraduate
students (taking 12 or more credit hours) and all full-time graduate
students (taking 9 hours or more) are required to have health insurance
coverage. Students can meet this requirement by being covered under
their own individual health plan or through their parents' plan.
Students who have coverage must go to
www.studentinsurance.com, provide information regarding the policy
under which they are covered, and apply for a waiver of the insurance
requirement. Once their insurance information is received, it will be
verified. If the insurance information is verified, a waiver for the
student will be approved.
Students who fail to apply for the insurance waiver or whose insurance
coverage cannot be verified will be added to a UNC Asheville group
policy, will be charged $305.50 per semester for the health
insurance and the charge will be added the student's account, even if
they have existing health coverage.
Historical
Costs
The University
of North Carolina at Asheville is a publicly supported institution.
Tuition payments and other required student fees meet only a part of the
total cost of education of students enrolled. On the average, for each
full-time student enrolled in an institution of The University of North
Carolina, the State of North Carolina appropriated $9,021 per year in
public funds to support educational programs offered.
