Welcome to the Office of the Provost

and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

        Mission Statement

The Office of Academic Affairs is responsible for oversight, management, and accomplishment of the core of the institution's mission: As stated in UNC Asheville's Mission Statement- ..."to offer an undergraduate liberal arts education of superior quality for serious and able students."  Not only is the institutional mission the primary charge of Academic Affairs but so too are the institution's "guiding concepts" which amplify the mission and bring focus to the efforts of key administrative offices.  Academic Affairs is the gyroscope of the university and as such assumes the accomplishment of the institution's mission and the guiding concepts as the foundation of the office's mission.

Provost's Goals for Academic Affairs

  • Finalize and communicate the structure and responsibilities for Academic Affairs, especially the Deans and Associate Provost
  • Organize discussions on faculty work to solicit broad input on issues of responsibilities and rewards
  • Propose an infrastructure -- people and processes -- that can move us toward a culture of evidence
  • Lead the Diversity Action Council to engage with early priorities
  • Collect information on successes and challenges in the current faculty search process
  • Collect information on needs to address an improvement in faculty salary
  • Integrate leadership of UNC Tomorrow with leadership of workgroups for the Strategic Plan
  • Launch workgroups as outlined in the Strategic Plan
  • Propose an infrastructure to coordinate the operation of all pre-college programs and plans
